AULED - Energy-Efficient LED Street Light

LED street lights - energy-savers with minimal light pollution

The Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) has long since concluded, that human-induced climate change causes a vast number of economical, ecological and political problems, and that it can only be stopped if western nations find a way to cut their thirst for more and more energy.

Since a lot of energy is wasted in public lighting, engineers from HarzOptics and AUTEV - a company which specalizes in eco-friendly technology - have developed AULED, a LED street light designed to meet the highest ecological requrements. The initial batch has already been tested well and HarzOptics and AUTEV expect to launch the product in late 2008.

Ecological advantages of AULED street lights:

  • Energy efficiency:  AULED street lights consume about 42% less energy
than POS - and with our intelligent dimming system, the energy savings
can be elevated by another 20% (compared to standard POS).

  • Less light pollution: AULED street lights can be precisely adjusted to
lighten only selected areas, thus greatly decreasing light pollution.
  • Insect friendly: AULED street lights attract zero nocturnal insects, making
it the ideal lighting system for public parks and other outdoor venues.

Economic advantaged of AULED street lights:

  • Energy efficiency: Due to the much lower need for energy, communities and
cities can save real money: With about 100 Euros less energy costs per year,
any investment in AULED street lights charges off in less than five years.

  • Longer life span: While common POS only last for about 12.000 hours, the
AULED street light can be used about 50.000 hours, thus greatly reducing
    replacement and maintenance costs.
